Farewell to Bosnia, Part One

Gilles Peress’s Sarajevo photographs, archival film, and American museum visitors speaking in a Reaction Room. 25 minutes.
The page opens with “Powerful reactions to images of history and war” and also says “COMING SOON,” so the 2019 listing still treated the title as in progress.
From February 1994 through March 1995, Gilles Peress’s photographs of the Bosnian war toured American museums, including the Corcoran Gallery, P.S. 1, and the Southeast Museum of Photography. Peress spent six months in and around Sarajevo.
Visitors wrote responses and could speak on camera in a booth called the Reaction Room. The 25-minute video combines those photographs, archival film of the Balkans, selected audience responses, and letters to the exhibition. It is described as a window on a pre-9/11 war, and on how photojournalism shapes a sense of history.
Powerful reactions to images of history and war.
