When Food Becomes an Obsession

Emma, 17, and her parents talk through anorexia and recovery, alongside a psychologist who reads from her own diary.
The original title continues “Overcoming Eating Disorders.” The page says the film was recommended nationally by the Eating Disorders Awareness & Prevention organization, presented by the American Anorexia Bulimia Association, and promoted by the Renfrew Clinic.
It features Emma, described as a 17-year-old recovering from anorexia, and her parents, Virginia and John, speaking about the illness and recovery. Psychologist and counselor Susanna Feder, herself recovered from bulimia, reads from her diary.
Dr. Dianne Mickley of the Wilkins Eating Disorder Clinic explains medical and psychological aspects of the disease.
Booklist wrote: “Neither preachy nor overly dramatic, this impressive program slowly commands attention with its fine mix of visuals, interviews and commentary.”
Beautiful, healthy and happy may not mean a totally fat-free body.
